A great post on the tummietote belt from Alexis Pollack at i run on insulin blog.

Thank you Alexis.

Want to know what AWESOME looks like? Just check out the pic to the left of yours truly. These days, going for a run looks a whole lot different than it did a few months ago as I delve in to my half marathon training. I’ve got on my Vibram Five Finger toe shoes, and my TallyGear belt stuffed with my CGM, PDM, and extra Gu packs. If that’s not a diabetic superathlete I don’t know what is! What’s that you say? Only running four miles doesn’t qualify as a “superathlete?” Oh. Well, at least I’m dressed the part. All joking aside, half marathon training is going pretty well thanks to being able to conveniently carry all my D-gear in my nifty belt. I love being able to check in on my CGM and then adjust my insulin on the spot. And to be honest, I don’t look that out of place with all the other runners out there – many people running along the coast have a water-bottle-and-fuel belts attached to them. My belt just happens to have a whole bunch of cyborg accessories instead of Gatorade.

                                                        Have a great weekend folks!

still no power from Hurricane Irene.....

Cape Pogue Lighthouse on Chappaquiddick Island....
this is my favorite place.
I was married just down the beach from here 15 years ago.
I'd love to be sitting there now.
What a peaceful place.

After the storm that blew thru on Sunday August 28, 2011........ I sit here one week later still with no power. This week has been a challenge even for us. With a landscape business that has been busy with cleanup, tallygear which has been running on generator power on and off....school starting this past Tuesday with limited washing machine and shower capabilities...and a newly strung up clothes line in the backyard....not to mention heating up soup with a blow torch out back....we were even unable to travel our road for 3 days as the trees were slowing things down....luckily my husband and several others got their saws out to somewhat clear but, there were so many power lines down...it was treacherous.....generators running for a week straight I can't get the sound out of my head. Trekking around the house at 1-2-3 am checking blood sugar by flashlight...need I say more. Its been a hell of a week.......I need some rest.....ugh.

what a night.....

Tallia went to bed last night close to 300...so you know how that goes.....set the alarm for several checks.....all seemed well until she woke in the morning and her site was not attached....how would that happen???? no idea. 362 showing ketones...I hate starting the day like that...it sets the stage. Then all day chasing numbers & checking ketones....forcing her to drink to clean out her system......diabetes never sleeps and neither do we. I am tired of this disease.

Tallygear Tummietote Review. Thank you.

Thank you to Kirsty & her daughter for this wonderful
review of the tummietote belt. I love this picture.
This is exactly why I created the belt....its nice to see.
...life is fun.
"I bought this belt for my 4 year daughter who uses an insulin pump. We now have two tummietote belts as they are so fab. On for wear and one for wash. My daughter loves how comfortable they are. She wears hers 24/7, the only time she takes it off is for a bath or swimming. I love the simplicity of it and the way it fits her so well. It means her pump can be kept out of sight (stops the stares and questions) and out of mind (stops her worrying about her pump). The belts mean my daughter can behave like any other four year old. Thank you Tallygear."

Tally in the shop.

Tally loves to be in the tallygear shop with her mother.
She is always, always, always working on a project & her mother is forever cleaning up after her.
tonights project was in her own words
"Bill the glitter pooping unicorn".
as seen below.

I think she actually used staples to hold his head to his neck......ewwww.
& glitter glue for the poop.
She loves anything squishy.......

he will hang around for the rest of summer then I will put 'Bill' out to pasture.
Tally, I & her father decided Tally will go to the Clara Barton Diabetes Camp in North Oxford, Massachusetts for a one week day program in July 2011...she has asked me for several years but, now I think I am ready to let her go.... its tough though.
I love her so so much and want her to be safe...what better place.

Tally was being a little silly...and wanted me to add above pic.
in her own words...
"did you ever wonder how a rainbow happens? Unicorns sleep on clouds and after rain sometimes they don't feel good and throw up rainbows."

A Review of the Tallygear LegBand by Haley at NaturallySweeet Blog.

Monday, May 23, 2011Tally Gear: My Secret Weapon

A few weeks ago I was in a fashion show. I wore a beautiful long white dress and was very excited about everything. When I was getting dress I came across a dilemma. Where was I going to put my insulin pump during the fashion show?! My underwear was not supportive enough and the pump was dragging it down. I had my Tally Gear belt with me and I placed it under the dress around my waist. Unfortunately since the dress was white and my Tally Gear was neon pink, it was completely visible.

I ended up wearing the pink Tally Gear with three under skirts to mask the pink. It ended up working fine and it was a great night to say the least.

After the fashion show I had a few other events coming up which I knew this would be a similar problem, prom, JDRF promise ball, arts banquet performance, ect.

So I sent an email to the lovely Miss Donna Annese. I told her about how I wanted something discreet and still sturdy to hold my pump while wearing a dress. We came up for the plan of making a garter, and then Donna got busy!

This is the AMAZING product we came up with:

Since I have gotten it, I have worn it at about every possible time I could.

Try and find a sign of wearing an insulin pump in any of these pictures!

Donna, Thank you so much, thank you for being so kind, and thank you for spending all this time to help me.

Somedays I feel like I will wake up and realize its all been a bad dream....you know that feeling. Its so real but, then you wake up. I am waiting to wake up. I am so tired of being tired of nothing ever being manageable. I think Tal is tired too...and then I start thinking about the future when I can't or maybe she won't want me there or to be involed on a daily basis. Will she take care of herself the way she has learned and the way I drilled it into her head only because I want her to be prepared and to be safe. I love her so much and don't want any reprocussions from this disease. I find I don't want to talk about it somedays...I find thats all we talk about somedays....I fear it has taken over and life is no longer what I remember (somedays I do not remember that feeling of "before diabetes"). Life feels like a daily struggle...no matter how hard we try to make it a part of everyday life  we are never truly comfortable. Type 1 is always there...no matter what. Diabetes I am tired...please give me and all T1 moms and dads a break....we don't want you in our lives anymore.
