like every other morning...

Tallia Emily....my sweet sweet child. I don't think we realize as mothers how hard we work to maintain our and our families lives. BUT,  we would have it no other way. We go through some days with so much energy and then there are other days (most) that we are so drained...but, when your child says mama  "I feel low" you jump to attention...no fail...nothing else matters at that point....caring for them is all worth it....because we love them so so deeply.

This is Tally at 5am this morning...I said honey lets go pee and test and she always gives me this sour look and says no...no...no then she finally gives in goes pee then tests....adjusts with insulin or juice and then she falls back into a deep sleep and knows that her mama is watching over her to make sure she will always be safe.

I love you tally bug. mama.

Somedays I feel like I will wake up and realize its all been a bad dream....you know that feeling. Its so real but, then you wake up. I am waiting to wake up. I am so tired of being tired of nothing ever being manageable. I think Tal is tired too...and then I start thinking about the future when I can't or maybe she won't want me there or to be involed on a daily basis. Will she take care of herself the way she has learned and the way I drilled it into her head only because I want her to be prepared and to be safe. I love her so much and don't want any reprocussions from this disease. I find I don't want to talk about it somedays...I find thats all we talk about somedays....I fear it has taken over and life is no longer what I remember (somedays I do not remember that feeling of "before diabetes"). Life feels like a daily struggle...no matter how hard we try to make it a part of everyday life  we are never truly comfortable. Type 1 is always there...no matter what. Diabetes I am tired...please give me and all T1 moms and dads a break....we don't want you in our lives anymore.

This is our 1978 VW Bug....we always called it the ice cream car.

In recent years it hasn't moved from the garage because life has changed.....
it had become incredibly busy....with work and diabetes.

So we decided to sell it. It has been sold and is moving to the coast of New Haven CT. today. Tal is sad but,
life is constantly changing.....someday we will have another ice cream car. It was fun to drive.......enjoy the day.

no rest for the weary.....

we never really sleep do we. It was so long ago that I can't remember the feeling of a good night sleep. I find myself taking cat naps between jobs all through the day. What a life we lead as a full time pancreas'.

Tallygears' NEW Tummietote Leg Band

I was asked to design a legband for the prom....after several designs we think we found what works. Tally tested for me and says it works well. It has 2 velcroed pockets on the front of the band to hold insulin pump, Dexcom or cellphone. There are also 2 additional slip in pockets on the back that could carry smaller items or if necessary could carry a small test kit.
Introducing the Tummietote Leg Band.

Keeping your devices hidden under dress or skirt or pants.

Adjustable length velcroed straps attached to grasping clips.

Grasping clips...to hold the Tummietote Leg Band securely.

Super soft fabric.

A good alternative to carrying devices while wearing a dress or skirt or pants.

Design is made to carry tech devices on the front of the leg.

2 velcroed pockets to hold your insulin pump, Dexcom, cellphone, Ipod. 2 additional non velcroed pockets, for essentials, cash, credit cards....candy (sugar) or you could even carry a small blood test kit in a pinch.

Made with the same design as the Tummietote belt.

adjustable length strap with one inch waist strap to secure the legband in place or clip to bottom of underwear.

Tummietote Leg Band- heavy duty 'grabbing' clips so no chance of slipping off the fabric. Will hold several devices. @ velcroed pockets and 2 slip in pockets.
I will be adding to the website soon. If you are interested before that please send me an email at tallygear@aol.com or visit our site at http://www.tallygear.com/

Have a great day.

The Diabetes Mine 2011 Design Challenge

It was only by chance that we made it under the wire. I submitted the Tummietote Belt by Tallygear. It was either a written submission or a video. I chose the video...it was done quickly so please forgive the minor mistakes. I am very excited about even just submitting an entry. I have followed Diabetes Mine blog with Amy for several years, and have gotten alot of information that I use in the daily care of my daughterTallia.

here is the video...

Remember submissions need to be submitted by tonight at 11:59pm....I can't wait to see some of the great ideas.....I always say so many ideas but, so little time.

Have a great day.

Carbs Galore....

Tally enjoying her favorite raspberry square at Mocha Motts.
Can you guess the carbs?

& a 16 oz. hot chocolate.....whew.

she is not letting that hot chocolate go....
Mocha Motts is on Main Street in Vineyard Haven
on the beautiful island of Marthas Vineyard.

Do you think she enjoyed it?
All signs (the crumbs on her lips) point to yes.
This is one of Tals' favorite spots, my sisters have a place up the road
and when we get out here we make the walk to town every morning.
It is a peaceful place to be...almost like you can breath again.
Enjoy the day.

Tallia Emily received honorable mention...

Tallia Emily has been working on a research project since the start of school in late September 2010. She presented her project Thursday April 16, 2011. She had to make several presentations to the judges. She was very nervous but,did well...she is glad its done. She received honorable mention. Her project was titled Diabetes. She compared the differences between Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational Diabetes. She was concerned that most people didn't realize the difference between the three. She did a terrific job. Congratulations to Tally. You put alot of work in to this project. Good Job.

Tallia is pictured the first on the left in the front row.
